Awareness activities for student at Thakahm
Wetlands International and PTT ran a training activity on 17th December, 2010 and 29th-30th December for students from PalianpadungsitSchool, a local secondary school, and YongStarSchool, the local primary school. The main focus of the morning training was Coastal and Mangrove Ecology.
In the afternoon, all students enjoyed learning about roof making from Nypa leaves and snacks from Nypa fruits. The children then made hanging fish from old plastic bottles and learned from WI Field Officer Mr. Donnapat Tamornsuwan about bio-fertiliser; how to make it, its uses and ecological advantages. The event was held at Thakham's learning centre in village 7, set up by Mr. Somit Noklang, who is also the leader of the local aquaculture group. K Somit is a retired teacher. However, even though he is retired, he still enjoys taking an active role in community matters and sharing his knowledge with local children, (seepictures).
